Apple To Launch iOS In The Car Next Week With Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz And Volvo

March 1, 2014
Apple is set to launch "iOS in the Car" next week, The Financial Times reports. According to the publication, the company will officially announce the highly anticipated in-car operating system at next week's Geneva Motor Show. While a number of car manufacturers have been reported to have teamed up with Apple for iOS in the Car, Apple is reportedly launching the software with Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo as its initial partners. The Financial Times notes:
The deal marks the first time that Apple is embedding its software in devices other than its own branded products. The choice of the Ferrari, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz is seen to be in keeping with the US tech group’s high-end phones.
Notably, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, has been on Ferrari's board of directors since November 2012. Apple’s iOS in the Car was unveiled at WWDC 2013 last June. With iOS in the Car, users can connect their iOS devices to an in-car display either via a wired connection or through a wireless solution. The connected display can then enable users to interact with iOS, as for navigating or initiating certain functions, directly or indirectly using Siri Eyes Free. Apple is expected to integrate iOS in the Car into iOS 7.1, which is rumored to be released next month.
