The App Store takes delivery of hundreds of new apps per day. The overwhelming scene makes it possible to easily overlook an exciting game, valuable productivity suite, etc. However, we have a solution. Today’s Best Apps tackles this problem by providing you with a handpicked and tested list of apps that are truly worth your consideration each and everyday.
Remember: Even though in-app purchases typically require your iTunes Store password for processing, you can further prevent them and other unauthorized actions by enabling local restrictions using the passcode locked iOS parental controls
Rewind Radio by Michael Mase (Free, 14.9 MB): This time-centric online radio app allows you to easily enjoy the music of specific generations for a nostalgically fun feeling. Even though we become obsessed with recent hits, I'm certain all of us can admit to flashbacks regarding forgotten favorites, whether that was two, twenty, or forty years ago. Well, now you can relive those milestone moments no matter how long has passed. Just select a decade or year, and optionally a season, then sit back and savor as classics only released during that period fill your ears. By default, the playback only includes previews, which still functions as a great reminder. However, if you have an Rdio subscription, simply login for the full experience with no additional cost, otherwise, follow the convenient shopping cart link to purchase the full song or album in the iTunes Store.
Unread – An RSS Reader by Nice Boy LLC ($2.99, 19.8 MB): Based upon a deep appreciation of the rich site summary's effective simplicity, this RSS feed reading tool helps you fully focus on the words through a flowing design. Whether a personal piece or something about a global event, your subscribed information sources are fed via a vertically motioned stream of edge-to-edge text colored in one of two standard eye-pleasing palettes, either white on black or black on white with some splashes of red. Equally as elegant, once you're finished ingesting an entire article, all it takes is a rightward tug or flick using a thumb or finger to slide the completed panel away and find yourself back at the previous point. Optionally, a similar but leftward gesture will reveal other possibilities, such as preference and social sharing choices. As for settings, just some of the selections include six font sizes, automatic content update and offline caching storage management, plus third-party app/service integration permissions. A Feedly, Feed Wrangler, Feedbin, or combination of such accounts is required.
3 Words by Critical Hit Software, LLC (Free, 4.2 MB): Put your vocabulary knowledge through the stress test by attempting to tackle this fast-paced letter-based word game. The challenge is essentially endless with three rounds per level. For the first round, you're required to submit any valid word that begins with the randomly selected letter shown in 30 seconds or less. At the beginning of round two, another random letter will appear. To succeed and move forward, provide a word that contains the second letter and starts with the first, once again, in half-a-minute or less. During the final round, a third random letter gets shown. Now, likely obvious, the entry must still begin with the first letter, contain the second, and also include this one. If victorious, you'll move onto the next round and so forth, facing a higher difficulty as the countdown timer for every round eventually decreases by five seconds. Fail, which may be avoided by paying for more time, and it's one strike out of three total given. The game features colorful 2-D graphics, simple sound effects, in-app currency, and a Game Center leaderboard.
Pacemaker ® by Pacemaker Music AB (Free, 41.4 MB): Comfortably pump up the party scene with this beautifully flattened user interface disc jockey deck. The typical dual-turntable design allows for some mad mixes by manipulating two tracks, which may be from your own music library or via Spotify's vast collection, in several different ways. Of course, there's scratching and scrubbing as well as a left and right channel fade control, but that's only the beginning. At the center of each turntable sit four icons: loop, beatskip, tempo, and FX. Very intuitive and smooth, these modifiers get activated or adjusted through sweeping/swirling dial-type circular controls or tapping pie-type configured preset length buttons. More like preference enhancements, the free effects include bass, mid-frequency, treble, and gain regulators. The full beatskip and loop functionality plus echo, reverb, roll and hi-lo filter effects are available for a $9.99 package price or $1.99 separately. Utilizing the Spotify library requires an active subscription and Internet connection to download songs.
