Yahoo News Digest Updated With New Information 'Atoms' And Other Improvements
Yahoo has just issued the first update to its popular news summarization app, Yahoo News Digest.
Released early last month, Yahoo News Digest essentially offers a combination of Yahoo News and Summly, which Yahoo acquired in March last year. The app helps you “get in the know in no time” by delivering digests of important news twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.
As noted by Yahoo, these digests provide summarizations of the top stories highlighted with key information:
If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Each story is created from multiple sources to present the essential bits and pieces of information, known as “Atoms”. Atoms are key quotes, images, videos, stock tickers, maps, infographs, and Wikipedia excerpts among others. These atomic units provide a unique context to the news.
And with its first ever update, Yahoo News Digest has gained a couple of new atoms, namely, the new Weather atom and the new Statistics atom.
The latest update also adds a digest completion indicator and a What You've Read overview, which can be accessed from the Done section at the bottom of the digest. Moreover, it adds a new sharing animation along with the ability to share cover posters.
Also including bug fixes, the new version of Yahoo News Digest is available now in the App Store for free. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later.
