Cydia Tweak: ProWidgets Has Launched, Promises To Revamp Multitasking For iOS

March 19, 2014

ProWidgets, a jailbreak tweak that aims to hugely improve the multitasking experience available in Apple’s iOS, has just launched on the Cydia Store. You can pick up the package now for $2.99 and it’s optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Developed by Alan Yip, ProWidgets works by enabling “widgets” for a selection of iOS applications. These can be activated using an Activator action, and when enabled, the widgets allow users to interact with supported apps without having to launch or navigate to the application itself.

Instead, a mini interface provides quick access to the app, and this can be activated from the Home screen or from inside of another iOS application. Clever, right?

Of course, the additional screen real estate means the iPad – and particularly Apple’s 9.7-inch, full-size tablet – is where ProWidgets is going to truly shine. But the app is optimized for the iPhone, too, allowing users to quickly input data into a number of apps on the fly.

Supported apps include Calendar, for creating and viewing events; Notes, for inputting items and managing saved notes; and Reminders, for adding and managing reminders.

There’s also Messages support, for quickly composing texts; Mail support, for quick email composition; and support for Web browsing, too, allowing users to open links and even add bookmarks to Safari.

Finally, users can access a dictionary widget, an alarm widget, and a timer, making it possible for users to look up words and easily interact with the built-in Clock app. Spotify and Google Authenticator widgets are coming soon to the jailbreak tweak, too.

As mentioned, you can access widgets from anywhere – including the Home screen, the Lock screen, and inside of open apps – and Activator support makes launching ProWidgets incredibly convenient. Widgets can also be maximized or minimized, and on the iPad, multiple widgets can remain open at the same time.

Third-party add-ons are supported, too, and as such we’re expecting ProWidgets to further improve as more time passes.

For now, those of you looking to revamp iOS multitasking can download the package for $2.99 on the Cydia Store, and as mentioned it’s optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
