If Doc Brown Owned An iPad mini, This Is How He'd Have Used It

March 4, 2014

Apple might be bringing iOS to cars with its recently unveiled CarPlay, but one modified DeLorean goes a step further: its owner has fitted it out with a cellular iPad mini that's embedded right into the car's dashboard, adding a music player, Google Maps, and – you guessed it – a Flux Capacitor app to the classic 1981 car.

Car enthusiasts – or even fans of the “Back to the Future” film series – will want to check out the 13-minute video in full. Those interested in the car's use of an iPad mini, however, should skip forward to around the 6:50 mark:

As you can see, the impressive setup lets the owner bring a full and complete iOS experience to his DeLorean. This includes music, Google, turn-by-turn navigation (using Google Maps), voice control, and more. The Flux Capacitor app is indeed present and accounted for, though the application itself unfortunately seems to have been removed from the App Store, and isn't available to download.

CarPlay, on the other hand, is coming to a select number of car models later this year with an update to iOS 7. Though if you asked me, I'd take the modified 1981 DeLorean any day.
