Luftrausers Is Coming To The Mac And PC On March 18

March 4, 2014

The folks behind the Apple Design Award-winning Ridiculous Fishing have a new game in the works. Called Luftrausers, the title should be available to download later this month, though unfortunately it's not going to be available in the App Store (at least to begin with).

Rather, Luftrausers will be available for Mac, PC, and Linux, along with PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. Though we usually limit our coverage to iOS apps, given that Luftrausers is developed by the two-man team behind one of 2013's most popular applications, we're more than a little excited for its release.

Here's how developer Vlambeer describes Luftrausers over at the app's website:

The skies will be set aflame and the seas will overflow with wreckage in Vlambeer's stylish arcade shooter LUFTRAUSERS! Select from over 125 combinations of weapons, bodies, and propulsion systems and take to the skies to battle enemy fighter planes, battleships, submarines, and rival aces for glory, honor, and high scores.

Bravely volunteer for one of over 100 daring missions to unlock new Rauser combinations and vibrant color variations and become the most legendary Rauser pilot of all time!

We're now hearing that Luftrausers should be available to download on March 18 – though as of this writing, pricing for OS X hasn't been announced. Below, we've included a trailer video showing off Luftrausers in action.

From what we can tell, the game looks like it holds on to the retro graphical design and gameplay of Ridiculous Fishing. If you're new to the iOS app, it charges players with the task of fishing using guns, chainsaws, and even toasters; the app received a big update a few months after its release, and in our review we declared it to be “one of the best games” of the year.

It seems Apple agreed, too, because Ridiculous Fishing went on to win an Apple Design Award during WWDC 2013.

You can pick up Ridiculous Fishing for $2.99 in the App Store, and as mentioned, the desktop- and console-only Luftrausers should be available to download from March 18.
