Scribd For iOS Updated With Long Overdue E-Book Reader Improvements

March 15, 2014

Scribd, the official iOS app of “the world's largest digital library,” has just been updated with several new features for its built-in e-book reader.

To be sure, these new features shouldn't have been missing in the first place, common as they already are among the myriad e-reader apps available on iOS. In spite — or perhaps because — of this, the addition of these features is most welcome.

First off, there's support for searching for text within e-books. Just tap the new search icon, type the word or phrase you want to search for, and tap any of the search results to be taken to the page with the corresponding match.

There's also the ability to select text within e-books to bring up the contextual menu, which lets you copy, search, define, and share via email, text, Facebook, or Twitter.

Finally, there's the new in-app brightness control, which is found in the “Aa” menu. Note that any changes you make through this brightness control is reflected systemwide. That is, it effectively serves as an in-app alternative to the brightness slider found in Control Center.

The Scribd app has also been updated with various bug fixes.

As before, the Scribd app offers the following key features:

  • Instant access to 100,000+ books from 900+ publishers in every genre
  • Discover new favorites with our editorial collections and personalized recommendations
  • Millions of user-contributed documents and written works
  • No limits: read as much as you want - service is available worldwide
  • Works across your iPhone, iPad, Android, or browser - books are synced automatically
  • Store books on device for offline reading

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later, Scribd is available in the App Store for free.

Unlimited access to Scribd content may be unlocked via in-app purchase for $8.99 per month.
