Burberry's Angela Ahrendts Becomes A Dame Ahead Of Her Move To Apple
April 7, 2014
Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts has been named an honorary dame, just weeks before she heads to Apple as the company’s new head of retail operations. She received her medal from U.K. business secretary Vince Cable on Sunday, according to The Daily Mail.
Earlier this year, word first leaked that Ahrendts would be named Dame of the British Empire, the female equivalent of a knighthood. As Joe White noted at the time, because Ahrendts isn’t a Brit herself, it’s not customary for the honor to be handed over by a member of the royal family, even though Queen Elizabeth II sanctioned the honorary title.
Ahrendts is expected to leave Burberry for Apple before the end of April, where she will serve in the newly created position of senior vice president of retail and online sales. Her hire was first reported back in October.
