At Twitter's Behest, Tapbots Issues Mandatory Updates To Tweetbot
May 24, 2014
Tapbots has just begun rolling out mandatory updates to its popular Tweetbot Twitter client apps for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
Why "mandatory"? "A couple weeks ago Twitter’s Platform Operations group contacted us and asked us to make a small change to the way Tweetbot communicates with the Twitter API," Tapbots notes in a new blog post. While this change has no bearing on how Tweetbot essentially works, it does render all prior versions of the app inoperative. So, it is imperative that users download the new versions of Tweetbot 2 and Tweetbot 3 — 2.8.8 and 3.3.2, respectively.
The updates are already live in the App Store. Note that after installing either update, you will be required to re-authenticate your Twitter account.
Tapbots further notes that it will be coordinating with Twitter to make the final change on Thursday, May 29, at 10 a.m. PST.
Tweetbot 2 and Tweetbot 3 are available in the App Store for $4.99 each. Tweetbot for iPad is available for $2.99.
Tweetbot for Mac ($19.99 in the Mac App Store) is apparently unaffected by the change in question.
