Cydia Tweak: Circlet Offers An Interesting Take On iOS Status Bar Icons

May 11, 2014

Circlet is a recent addition to the Cydia Store which brings an interesting new design to iOS status bar icons. The new $0.99 package allows users to replace a handful of status bar icons with “informative and personalized circles,” according to the jailbreak tweak’s developer, and it can be downloaded now on the Cydia Store.

Once installed, users can configure Circlet from inside the Settings app. Here, Circlet adds a new preferences pane, and a selection of options are available.

First, jailbreakers can enable Circlet for their cellular signal, for Wi-Fi or cellular data network availability, and for their handset’s battery life. Upon doing so, you’ll find that the usual iOS icons for each aspect of your iPhone are replaced by circular pie chart-like icons. These not only look great, but they also help users free up space in their iOS status bar.

Best of all, Circlet doesn’t require users to have downloaded either WinterBoard or Alkaline; it’s incredibly lightweight, and it doesn’t save assets, either – instead, individual “circlets” are generated “as-needed,” developer Julian Weiss (@insanj) explains in the package’s release notes.

If you’ve been searching for a smarter iOS status bar, consider taking Circlet for a spin. It’s optimized for both the iPhone and iPod touch (under iOS 7), and iPad support is billed as “coming soon.”

As mentioned, Circlet can be downloaded now for $0.99.
