Amazon Officially Unveils The Fire Phone To Compete Against Apple's iPhone

June 18, 2014
At a special event this afternoon, as expected, Amazon has introduced its first smartphone – the Fire Phone. Easily the top feature of the phone is the 3-D interface, which Amazon refers to as a dynamic perspective. Some uses of the technology include a 3-D lock screen and maps. The phone uses four different cameras to provide the effects. The handset also features a quad-core 2.2 GHZ processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization. Some of the other interesting features include tangle-free and magnetic headphones with flat cables, X-ray technology, and ASAP predictive caching for video content. As for the actual hardware design, the Fire Phone looks amazingly similar to the iPhone sporting a 4.7-inch screen covered with Gorilla Glass 3. The phone will be available exclusively on AT&T and cost $199 for a 32GB version. A 64GB version is $299. It will ship on July 25. Photo: The Verge
