Apple Shines The Spotlight On OS X Yosemite's Redesigned Search Experience
June 2, 2014
At its introductory keynote presentation at WWDC 2014, Apple unveiled the next generation of its Mac operating system, dubbed "Yosemite." Yosemite comes with plenty of new features, including an all new experience for Spotlight, the search technology integrated into OS X.
Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, demoed the new software live on stage. In his demo, Spotlight is now shown to be right in the middle of the Mac screen.
Spotlight on Yosemite can search through apps, contacts, mail, events, and reminders.
It can also search through documents. What's more, it lets you search for an app and immediately see the recent documents opened with that app.
The revamped Spotlight also boasts Maps and Yelp integration for place searches. In addition, it allows you to search for a movie and get showtimes, theaters nearby, plus content that can be streamed from the iTunes Store.
All that and more, right within Spotlight in OS X Yosemite.
