Apple’s making the jump into the smart home with its new HomeKit API for developers. Just announced at the WWDC 2014 keynote, the API sounds great. Designed for the growing smart home market and devices like locks, lights, cameras, doors, thermostats, plugs, and switches, it allows secure pairing from your iOS device. Apple said Secure Pairing is quick to setup and allows only the registered iOS device to control smart home devices. Users can also control their individual devices and even group devices into different scenes. That makes it much easier than dealing with a number of third-party apps. HomeKit will also feature Siri integration.
