Bandcamp Updates Official iOS App With Search And Other Improvements
June 22, 2014
Bandcamp, the popular online music store and independent artist promotion platform, has just released a major update to its official iOS app.
Bandcamp for iOS serves as a listening app that gives you streaming access to your Bandcamp music collection, your music feed, and the Bandcamp Weekly radio show. Note, though, that you must have a Bandcamp fan account to fully enjoy the app.
With its latest major update, Bandcamp now supports search. This enables you to search through Bandcamp's catalog of 10.8 million tracks and 1.4 million albums right from the app. It lets you search for artists and your fellow fans as well.
The update also lets you set your profile image in the settings section and tap any fan image in your feed to listen to the corresponding fan's collection.
And speaking of collection, the app now also lets you set your favorite track and comment on any album in your collection.
Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later, Bandcamp is available on the App Store for free.
As mentioned, a Bandcamp fan account is required to use the app. To get a Bandcamp fan account, you just need to buy something from Bandcamp and you'll get invited to join. If you've already bought music through Bandcamp, you can go ahead and create your fan account at Bandcamp.com/fans.
Bandcamp for iOS received its last major update late last January, thereby gaining the music feed feature.
