First Look At Apple’s iOS 8 Messages App

June 4, 2014
There are a number of new features set to debut in iOS 8. Many of these are located in Apple’s Messages app. The most publicized new Messages feature has been the ability to capture any sound and make it part of the conversation. Another nice trick is sending near real-time videos through Messages. Sharing location My favorite new Messages feature is the ability to send location information to someone. Located under the “Details” button at the top right of the screen, this feature allows you to send a map screenshot showing your current location. Better still, in Messages you can also share your location for a period of time. In the iOS 8 beta, location may be shared for one hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely. Do Not Disturb and Attachments Tired of an ongoing conversation? Messages in iOS 8 allows you to mute notifications. This too is located under “Details.” When this is a group conversation, you can quietly exit by clicking “Leave this Conversation.” Finally, Apple has made it much easier to find photos and other attachments from a conversation. To find these, simply click on “Details” and scroll to the bottom of the screen. Here you find every attachment ever sent during the conversation. Apple is likely to release iOS 8 to the public in September, around the time it unveils the “iPhone 6.” In the weeks and months ahead, we’ll be introducing you to other new iOS 8 features.
