Honeywell's Lyric Smart Thermostat Uses Apple's HomeKit, To Compete With Nest

June 10, 2014
On Tuesday, Honeywell announced the company’s new Lyric smart thermostat. The product is one of the first to utilize Apple’s new HomeKit API. With the $279 Lyric, you can control the climate in your home remotely with your iOS device. Features include:
  • Geofencing automatically regulates temperature when you’re away
  • Fine Tune considers temperature and humidity
  • Smart Cues keep you informed
  • Shortcuts create custom settings for recurring events
  • Motion-sensing display lights up on approach
  • Control from anywhere with your smart devices
Unlike Google's Nest smart thermostat, the Lyric includes a Fine Tune feature that adjusts the temperature based on "indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, and weather.” Announced during last week's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote address, Apple's HomeKit is designed for the growing smart home market and devices like locks, lights, cameras, doors, thermostats, plugs, and switches. It allows secure pairing from your iOS device. With HomeKit products, users can control their individual devices and even group devices into different zones. HomeKit also features Siri integration.
