Foursquare launches new design and logo as check-ins end this week
July 23, 2014
Foursquare’s transformation into something more like Yelp is almost complete. Beginning Thursday, the Foursquare app for iOS will no longer offer check-ins. Tomorrow also features the arrival of a new Foursquare logo, according to a company blog.
As a result of the changes, past check-ins, friends, and photos, are moving automatically to the Swarm by Foursquare app.
As the Foursquare blog notes:
Our logo is changing from the check-in checkmark to something representing the new Foursquare. We designed it to be a mix of map pin and superhero emblem. We’ve always thought of Foursquare as giving you superpowers to explore your city, and our new logo reflects that vision. It’s coming soon to a homescreen near you.So what does the new Foursquare look like? Take a look: Foursquare notes that "Once you teach (the app) a couple things about you – add tastes, follow experts, or even just walk around for a few days – the app will be 100% yours." The Foursquare transformation was first announced in May. At the time, the social network explained that the services it provides were splitting into separate entities. The original Foursquare app will now feature local search tools. Swarm by Foursquare, which was also unveiled in May, has been positioned as a “social heat map” that will allow users to check-in, find friends nearby, and share their location. The free Foursquare and Swarm by Foursquare apps are available for download on the App Store.
