Bungie releases companion app to Destiny ahead of video game's beta and launch

Bungie, the development studio best known for creating the hugely popular Halo video game franchise, has just updated its Bungie Mobile iOS app with a new name and a new key function.
Through its 3.0 update, Bungie Mobile has been renamed Destiny Companion in accordance with its new function as the official companion app to Destiny, Bungie's upcoming online multiplayer first-person sci-fi shooter.
Destiny is set to be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in Sept. 9, 2014. But a public beta testing phase has been scheduled from today, July 17, to July 27. Check out the official beta trailer for Destiny:

Destiny Companion is an app designed to augment the gaming experience of Destiny players during the game's public beta and after its official launch. The app lets you, as a Destiny player, search for other players, inspect your Guardian character, and stay connected to the virtual world of Destiny:
Inspect your Guardian, analyze player stats, and compare your Grimoire score. Keep in touch with your friends in the Bungie Community via forums, groups, or private messaging and track them down on the PlayStation Network or Xbox LIVE. And, receive the latest news and updates about Destiny.Destiny Companion is available now on the App Store for free. As mentioned, it comes as an update to Bungie Mobile rather than as a new app. It's optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later. A version optimized for iPad and iPad mini is planned for release alongside the official launch of Destiny. As noted on Destiny's beta webpage, the Destiny beta kicks off at 10 a.m. PDT today, July 17, for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 players and at 10 a.m. PDT on Wednesday, July 23, for Xbox 360 and Xbox One players.
