The Apple iPhone 5s remains the world's most popular smartphone

July 15, 2014
Through the end of May, the iPhone 5s remained the world’s most popular smartphone. Apple’s flagship device was followed in popularity by the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy S4. Rounding out the top five were the Samsung Note 3 and Apple iPhone 5c, according to sales research compiled by Counterpoint. According to the report:
The highly anticipated Galaxy S5 comes in at second place but still a quite distant number two in terms of (sell through) unit sales. The iPhone 5c shipments continue to decline but Apple continued clearing excess inventory for the iPhone 5c during the month. apple iPhone 5c sales put it behing Samsung’s last year’s flagship Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note III.

The Counterpoint survey is based on actual smartphone sales, not shipments, in 35 countries.

Apple will report the results of its third quarter on Monday, July 22. Notably, this call will be the first to be conducted under Luca Maestri, who succeeded Peter Oppenheimer as Apple’s new CFO a month ago.

As noted on Apple’s Investor Relations webpage, the conference call will take place at 2 p.m. PDT.

It will be accessible via audio webcast on the Apple Events webpage. If you have an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad running iOS 4.2 or above, any Mac running OS X 10.6.8 or above, or any PC running QuickTime 7 or later, you’ll be able to listen to the call live on your device.
