AppAdvice Exclusive: Clean up Snapchat screenshots with Snappp for iOS
August 12, 2014
If you've been looking for a quick and easy way to clean up screenshots you've taken from Snapchat, you're in luck. An app that does just that has just been released on iOS.
The app is called Snappp.
Usually, a Snapchat message or "snap" consists of a photo with a couple of overlays: one for the caption and another for the countdown. If you wish to make a typical snap look like a regular photo, i.e., make it look like the original photo, you have to get rid of the caption and the countdown.
Well, Snappp can remove both overlays ... automagically.
To let Snappp work its magic, just load a Snapchat screenshot from your device's camera roll into the app. You can then choose to have both the caption and the countdown removed or just get rid of either overlay. The converted image is then generated, sans the unwanted overlays. Optionally, you can tap the Fix Issues button to manually specify the placement of the caption overlay and have it removed more precisely.
Note that Snappp cannot remove doodle overlays (at least not yet). It's designed to clean up Snapchat screenshots of caption and countdown overlays only.
"No other app can do this," developer Robert Mozayeni tells AppAdvice. "There are several apps that go in the opposite direction, but the utility and novelty (oh, and the algorithm!) of Snappp is unique. I originally wasn’t going to finish the app and just leave it as a cool prototype, but (after surveying some random college students in a Facebook group) I had a few dozen people tell me, enthusiastically, that they’d pay for it."
Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.1 or later, Snappp is available now on the App Store for free.
The initial download allows you to convert up to three photos for free. To convert as many photos as you want, you have to upgrade to the app's full version via a one-time $0.99 in-app purchase.
