Apple is seeking the US trademark for 'TestFlight'
In February, Apple purchased Burstly, the owner of popular app testing platform TestFlight. The Cupertino, California-based company is now hoping to acquire the “TestFlight” trademark, according to Patently Apple.
According to a document from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Apple's trademark application was filed under two International Classes:
International Class 009 which specifically covers the following: "computer software for beta testing, crash reporting, and quantitative and qualitative analytics information concerning use and functionality of computer software applications; computer software for distributing computer software applications for beta testing; computer software development kits for beta testing computer software applications; computer software development tools for beta testing computer software applications "
International Class 042 which specifically covers the following: "computer consulting services, namely providing quantitative and qualitative analytics information, beta testing, distribution, and crash reporting concerning use and functionality of computer software applications; providing online non-downloadable software for use in providing quantitative and qualitative analytics information, beta testing, distribution, and crash reporting concerning use and functionality of computer software applications; computer consulting services, namely design and development of mobile computer software applications."
As Brent Dirks first reported, while many iOS users probably haven’t heard of TestFlight, it is a major help for developers. Before officially releasing their apps in the App Store, developers can use the distribution service to beta test and fine tune any lingering issues.
Apple announced in June that the TestFlight platform is fully integrated right into the App Store in iOS 8, making it easier for developers to invite users to beta test their apps for free.
