Hey you, Pikachu! An official Pokemon game is coming to iOS
The Pokemon Company, the company behind the popular Pokemon franchise (duh), has a couple of official apps for iOS. But neither of them is an actual Pokemon game. It should delight fans of the Pocket Monsters franchise to know, then, that an official Pokemon game is set to arrive on iOS soon.
If you’re one of them, you might be expecting the upcoming iOS title to be a mobile port of one of the franchise’s hit adventure games. Well, sorry to disappoint, but it’s not. Be that as it may, it promises to be a fun game as well.
As reported by Polygon, the game takes the form of the iPad version of the Pokemon Trading Card Game Online, a collectible card game based on the Pokemon video game series and currently played on Mac and PC.
The upcoming iPad game is already being shown to some attendees of this weekend’s Pokemon World Championship in Washington, D.C., including top Pokemon YouTuber Josh Wittenkeller, who tweeted a photo of the game:
It looks like Pokémon TCGO is in works for the iPad! Should be a huge way to expand the game. #PlayPokemon pic.twitter.com/SPlx3QZaTC

The Pokemon Company confirmed the authenticity of the game, but didn’t specify a time frame for its release. Wittenkeller told Gamezebo that “it was running really well,” so perhaps we may not have to wait long before it’s launched on the App Store. UPDATE: The Pokemon Company told Kotaku that it’s coming out later this year.
Currently, The Pokemon Company offers the Pokemon cartoon streaming app Pokemon TV and the Pokemon encyclopedia app Pokedex on the App Store.
