The release of Apple's 5.5-inch 'iPhone 6' delayed until 2015?

August 5, 2014
Remember when I said to take Apple rumors in August with a grain of salt? Here’s one of those rumors that hopefully won’t turn out to be true. KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo has told the Liberty Times that “iPhone 6” production has been stymied by yield issues with certain component parts, including in-cell touch panels and the metal chassis. Kuo suggests that these difficulties may force Apple to push back the release of the long-rumored 5.5-inch iPhone 6 until the fourth quarter of this year, or (gulp) early 2015. How likely is this? The Taiwan-based Liberty Times notes that shares for several Apple suppliers have dropped in recent weeks, suggesting that an iPhone delay is increasingly likely. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that the release of the 5.5-inch iPhone could be delayed. Last week, another Taiwanese publication said that production on the larger iPhone and so-called “iWatch” won’t even begin until September, with a December release possible. Kuo wouldn’t predict a release date for the long-rumored 4.7-inch iPhone. For now, most expect Apple to unveil this handset in September, although its release date might not be until October. I'm sticking with my belief that Apple will unveil two new iPhones in September, but  wouldn't be surprised to see the release of the smaller model pushed to October. A December release for the larger model? I'm not buying it, at least for now.
