Apple and U2 make history at iPhone 6 event with 'largest album release of all time'

September 9, 2014

The rumors of U2′s new tie-up with Apple have turned out to be true after all. What’s more, Apple has made history at its iPhone 6 and Apple Watch event today by hosting the “largest album release of all time” for U2′s latest album, “Songs of Innocence.”

At the event, U2 performed a new single from the album and then performed a skit with Apple CEO Tim Cook, which saw the album’s “automagical” release to all of iTunes’ over half a billion customers … free of charge.

Indeed, “Songs of Innocence” has been automatically added to every iTunes customer’s account at no cost.

Don’t believe it? Just go to the Purchased section in the iTunes Store app on iOS or in the iTunes Store on desktop to see for yourself:
