ESPN SportsCenter updated for iOS 8 with new Today widget and interactive notifications

September 25, 2014

A week after the release of iOS 8, ESPN SportsCenter has been updated with its anticipated integration with the new extensibility features in the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system.

When it introduced iOS 8 at its WWDC keynote last June, Apple highlighted ESPN’s popular sports news app as one of the apps that would leverage the operating system’s extensibility.

And sure enough, although coming a bit later than expected, ESPN SportCenter’s iOS 8 update has arrived.

As a result, ESPN SportsCenter now has its very own widget in the Today view of iOS 8′s Notification Center. Go to the app’s settings section to configure your preferred content, tap Edit in the Today view to add the ESPN SportsCenter widget, and start seeing scores from your favorite teams or playing live radio right from Notification Center.

In addition, ESPN SportsCenter now supports interactive notifications in iOS 8, enabling you to watch or listen to a game directly from a game alert.

The latest update to ESPN SportsCenter also delivers some bug fixes.

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 8, the new version of ESPN SportsCenter is available now on the App Store for free.

Yesterday, the iOS 8 extensibility-optimized version of Bing for iPhone, which was also highlighted by Apple at its iOS 8 unveiling alongside that of ESPN SportsCenter, was released.
