The 'iPad Pro' might feature an enhanced 'A8X' processor

September 25, 2014

The so-called “iPad Pro” is likely to launch with an “A8X” processor, according to Taiwan’s TechNews (via G for Games).

The report notes that the A8X processor is a graphics-enhanced version of the A8 processor found on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. It would be Apple’s first “X” version of its base iOS device chip since the iPad with Retina display launched with the dual-core A6X chip in 2012.

An A7 chip is inside the iPhone 5s, iPad Air, and iPad mini with Retina display.

Most likely, the iPad Pro would also feature more RAM. Previously, TechNews said that the “iPad Air 2″ would feature 2GB of RAM. The current iPads have 1GB of RAM, as do the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple is expected to unveil a new iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display in October. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is expected to arrive in 2015.
