Ahead of the New Year, tips for putting your Apple iOS device on a diet

December 30, 2014

When was the last time you played Angry Birds or deleted unnecessary photos on your iPhone? Are you really going to watch “Frozen” again on your iPad? With the new year just hours away, now is the perfect time to put your iOS device on a diet.

Best of all, unlike an actual diet, this is an easy process:

Videos

To remove movies and TV shows from your iOS device, go into the Videos app. From here, select Movies, TV Shows, and/or Music Videos. Then click “Edit” at the top right of the screen.

Videos installed on your device are marked with an “X.” Click on that icon to remove the item.

Apps and games

The best way to remove apps from your device is to go into Settings under General > Usage > Manage Storage.

From this screen, you can see the amount of device storage space that is being used and is available. You can also view how much storage each app is using. Click on the items you wish to remove, and select “Delete App.”

Photos

To remove photos, head into the Photos app.

Next, select “Photos” at the bottom of your screen. Click “Select” at the top right, and then click on each item that you wish to delete. Finally, click on the garbage can icon at the bottom right of your screen.

Note: Your deleted items will remain in the Recently Deleted folder under Albums for up to 30 days. During that time, the photos can be recovered from that same album.

Final note

Remember that thanks to iCloud, apps, games, and iTunes videos can be downloaded again onto your iOS devices at any time.
