Shelf Control: Turn up your audiobook experience with Random House's Volumes
As part of its “Try Audiobooks” campaign aimed at driving awareness for the oft-underrated audiobook format, Penguin Random House has released Volumes, which is the subject of this week’s edition of Shelf Control.
Volumes is a recently released iOS app that encourages you to “read” more books through audiobooks.
First and foremost, Volumes enables you to discover popular audiobooks available on the Penguin Random Audio platform, including titles from different authors across a variety of genres.
To get you started, Volumes offers a free download of the audiobook version of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” narrated by Jim Dale, who also lent his voice to the “Harry Potter” audiobooks. The app is also set to offer more free full-length audiobook downloads through its home section’s regular refreshes.
The home section is where you can browse the app’s audiobook recommendations by genre. You can also discover audiobooks in a particular genre from the side menu. Of course, you can also search for specific titles, authors, and even narrators by tapping the search icon.
If you find an item of interest, just go to its details page to find out more about it and listen to an excerpt. There you can also download the audiobook if it’s available for offline listening, or purchase the audiobook from the iTunes Store.
Your downloaded and purchased audiobooks are accessible in the My Audiobooks section for you to listen to using Volumes’ easy-to-use audio player.
