The first IBM MobileFirst for iOS apps are now available for businesses

December 10, 2014

Apple and IBM have announced the first wave of IBM MobileFirst for iOS solutions. The new apps arrive just four months after a groundbreaking new partnership was announced by the two technology companies.

The solutions are now available to enterprise customers in banking, retail, insurance, financial services, telecommunications, governments, and airlines. Initial users include Citi, Air Canada, Sprint, and Banorte.

Built exclusively for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad, IBM MobileFirst for iOS apps are delivered in a secure environment, embedded with analytics, and linked to core enterprise processes.

According to Bridget van Kralingen, senior vice president, IBM Global Business Services:

What we’re delivering aims directly at the new quest of business—smart technologies that unlock new value at the intersection of big data and individual engagement. Our collaboration combines IBM’s industry expertise and unmatched position in enterprise computing, with Apple’s legendary user experience and excellence in product design to lift the performance of a new generation of business professionals.

As first announced in July, the companies will work together in four major ways:

  • a new class of more than 100 industry-specific enterprise solutions including native apps, developed exclusively from the ground up, for iPhone and iPad;
  • unique IBM cloud services optimized for iOS, including device management, security, analytics and mobile integration;
  • new AppleCare® service and support offering tailored to the needs of the enterprise; and
  • new packaged offerings from IBM for device activation, supply and management.
