Pebble Time: $9 million raised in 24 hours for newest smart watch
Just 24 hours after launching a Kickstarter campaign for its new smart watch, Pebble has raised over $9 million with 30 days to go for the project. These numbers suggest that the upcoming Apple Watch won’t be the only smart watch that will be making some waves in 2015.
First introduced earlier this week, the Pebble Time features color e-paper with up to seven days of battery life, and a new timeline interface that highlights what’s important in your day. When it is released, the $199 watch will be available in black, white, and red.
Twenty percent thinner than the original Pebble watch, the Pebble Time is fully compatible with all 6,500+ existing Pebble apps and watch faces.
Pebble is accepting Kickstarter pledges for the Pebble Time through March 27. For as little as $179, you can reserve your own watch for $20 off. The first Pebble Time watches are expected to ship in May.
In 2012, nearly 69,000 backers helped raise $10.2 million to bring the first-generation Pebble watch to market. To date, this is the second most funded project on Kickstarter. The record is the $13.3 million raised for the Coolest Cooler in 2014.
We’ll continue to watch this project and see if it can break the previous record. It looks like it will, in my humble opinion.
