This week in accessories: X-Doria’s Defense Edge for the Apple Watch and more
It’s time to watch and learn. After Apple announced more information about the Apple Watch during a special media event on Monday, accessory makers took no time unveiling a flood of products for the new device – many of which we’ve already brought to you on AppAdvice. But in this week’s edition, we’re highlighting four more accessories for Apple’s first wearable device.
Defense Edge for the Apple Watch from X-Doria
Made with an aluminum exterior and rubber interior lining, X-Doria’s Defense Edge acts as a bumper to protect the Apple Watch from scratches and shocks. It’s easy to install with a quick snap-on design.
Available in a bronze or silver color, the Defense Edge retails for $29.99 and can be preordered now from X-Doria’s site. Buyers can select from a bumper made for either the 38mm or 42mm watch. Shipping is expected in April. Best Buy stores and BestBuy.com will exclusively offer a red or blue bumper.
Time Travel Apple Watch Case from WaterField Designs
WaterField’s pouch can keep the watch and a number of accessories safely protected in a number of pockets. Two small pockets can hold the charging cable and another accessory. A long pocket can hold extra watch bands or the watch itself. The largest compartment is designed to fit an iPhone or Bluetooth earbuds.
The case can be preordered now from the company’s site, and shipping is expected shortly after the Apple Watch arrives in late April. A case made from black ballistic nylon material is $49 while a number of other leather options are $59.
Charging Stand for Apple Watch from DODOCase
One of the first Apple Watch accessories announced all the way back in September, DODOCase’s charging stand can now be preordered from the company for $69.95. Made with walnut, the inductive charging cable is placed in the hidden wire routing portion of the stand. A weighted solid steel base makes it easy to place and lift the watch from the stand with just one hand.
The handcrafted piece will ship four to six weeks after the Apple Watch hits the market. It fits all strap designs and sizes of the watch.
The Bumper by ActionProof
Currently seeking funding via Indiegogo, the aptly named Bumper from ActionProof offers protection for the 42mm version of the watch. The watch’s sensor, microphone, speaker, and buttons are all unobstructed. It easily slips on and off the watch when needed.
Right now, for an early bird pledge of $20, you can reserve a black bumper. For $49, you can snag both a black and white bumper. Shipping is estimated in May.
GoMate Smartphone Case from Satechi
Designed for handsets as large as the iPhone 6, Satechi’s GoMate is an inexpensive way to protect a smartphone from damage while on the go. With a double-waterproof seal, the case is IPX-8 rated and will protect from water damage in up to depths of 20 feet. The touch-sensitive front panel gives users access to all phone functions while a rear camera slot allows for pictures and videos – even underwater. It also offers a built-in lanyard hole.
A white, black, or orange version of the case can be ordered now from Amazon.com for $19.99.
Oneadaptr from Bite My Apple
Perfect for the world traveler, Oneadaptr’s twist-to-charge functionality is designed to work with wall sockets in 150 countries around the world.
An adapter with four USB ports is $44.99. For $5 more, you can purchase a version that is compatible with a MacBook power adapter as well.
Vettra 360 for the iPad Air 2 from Sena
This iPad Air 2 case can swivel a full 360 degrees for both landscape and portrait viewing. Wrapped with genuine leather, the case gives users full access to the camera opening, charging port, and other buttons. The hidden magnets keep the case closed and provides automatic sleep and wake functionality.
The case is $89.95 and available from Sena’s site now. Buyers can select from a black or brown case. The Vettra 360 line is also available for the original iPad Air, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPad mini.
