MeteoEarth makes some of its premium features free

MeteoEarth, adapted from a professional weather broadcast tool used by TV presenters around the world, has recently been updated with new features. We’ve reviewed the app previously, but that was when the app cost $4.99 just to download. The app, now free, unlocks several advanced premium features that you previously needed a subscription for, giving you access to such functions as displaying multiple layers at once (temperature, precipitation, etc.), access to a storm tracker, and the ability to check water temperatures around the world.

Of course, free is never completely free, so you’ll have to suffer through in-app advertisements to keep the premium features active. However, MeteoEarth has provided users with a way to turn the ads off, either by opting out of the free premium features or by making an in-app purchase for a subscription to all of MeteoEarth’s apps.

The premium subscription also unlocks extended five-day forecasts and the option of viewing wind conditions at any altitude, all the way up to the jet stream.

MeteoEarth is a gorgeous app, and its beauty is not limited just to your iPhone or iPad. The app supports connectivity to Apple TV, allowing you to display your weather map on your big screen television.

Other features of the app include access to thousands of live weather webcams around the world and the ability to pause, rewind, and move forward in time for a 24-hour forecast. MeteoEarth brings the weather to life using high-end gaming technology and extraordinary graphics.

MeteoEarth is a free download for the iPhone and iPad on the App Store. A three-month premium subscription will cost you $1.99 via in-app purchase, or you can pay $5.99 for 12 months of ad-free viewing and additional features.
