Mosaic is a recently launched app for iOS that promises to offer users “the best notebook on your iPhone.” Created by Baron Fig (the folks behind a range of environmentally-friendly paper notebooks), the application is available free of charge now, and it’s optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch only.
In Mosaic, users can create individual “pages” in a virtual notebook and add sections of text, or even images, to each one. Adding text into a notebook’s page is as simple as completing a text field and hitting “Add,” and it’s just as easy to place a picture into your notebook, too (as you’d expect, Mosaic allows iPhone owners to either snap a new picture, or embed one that’s already housed inside the iOS Photos app).
Perhaps what’s most appealing about Mosaic are its gestures: in the app, users can swipe to delete individual entries on a notebook’s page, or they can swipe down to dismiss the page altogether. Tapping and holding allows users to rearrange entries on a page, and you can also tap on images (which are, by default, shrunken to fit inline with text) to enlarge them. All of this makes creating, editing, and browsing through pages in your Mosaic notebook a fairly effortless task.
Really, that’s all there is to Mosaic. Its user interface (UI) is generally appealing, adopting a white-on-purple color scheme that looks great. On my iPhone 6 Plus, the app has felt responsive and it’s worked reliably; unfortunately, Mosaic is an iPhone-only application for now (since no iPad version is available on the App Store), though we’re hoping this changes further down the line.
One thing we can’t complain about is the price: as mentioned, Mosaic is available free of charge on the App Store. If you’re dissatisfied with your current notebook app, consider taking this one for a spin.
