Apple launches repair program for faulty iPhone 6 Plus iSight cameras
Apple has just announced a new iSight Camera Replacement Program for a small number of iPhone 6 Plus units with a faulty rear camera sensor.
According to a new Apple support document, the possibly faulty sensor was included in some iPhone 6 Plus handsets sold between September 2014 and January of this year. If a specific component fails, it causes photos to look blurry.
Apple will replace the camera units on any affected handsets for no charge. That can be done through Apple Technical Support, an Apple Store, or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Wireless carriers are not participating in the program.
You can enter your serial number on Apple’s site to check your eligibility. Just to note, you may not be having any photo issues but are still eligible for the replacement program. My iPhone 6 Plus camera is just fine, but I did enter my serial number and saw that I am eligible to have my camera replaced.
An iPhone 6 Plus serial number can be found by going to Settings, General, and then About.
No iPhone 6 handsets are affected. The issue apparently relates to the Optical Image Stabilization feature only found on the larger handset.
The program will cover the camera sensors of affected units for three years after the first retail sale.
