Apple has rolled out a minor (but significant) update to its free, universal Apple Store iOS app adding support for gift card purchases.

As such, iOS device owners in possession of an Apple Store Gift Card can now complete purchases from inside of the Apple Store iOS application itself, without having to use Cupertino’s Apple Store website. Before now, this wasn’t possible.

In order to make a gift card purchase, you’ll need to choose the button marked, “Buy with other payment options,” when attempting to complete a purchase. You’ll then be able to add a gift card into the application.

It's quick and easy to add a gift card in the updated Apple Store app.

Adding a gift card couldn’t be easier. As Apple explains in the app’s release notes, Apple Store 3.4 allows iOS device owners to either snap a picture of their gift card, or to import it from Passbook (soon-to-be Wallet, as of iOS 9).

You can download Apple Store 3.4 now on the App Store; it’s available free of charge, and is optimized for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch.
