Explore an immersive world with Discovery VR for iOS
The folks behind the Discovery Channel are looking to offer fans an even more immersive viewing experience through utilizing Apple’s iOS.
Developer Discovery Communications is doing this through a new app, Discovery VR, which can be downloaded free of charge for the iPhone and iPod touch. In the app, fans of the Discovery Channel can access extra content from some of their favorite shows (like “Gold Rush” and “MythBusters”) and they can gain survival tips for off-the-grid treks.
However, what makes Discovery VR really impressive is the way it delivers its video content. You see, iOS device owners can control the viewing angle in the application’s countless videos through pointing their iPhone’s rear-facing camera in different directions. This creates a more exciting experience for iOS device owners, and the effect works really well in Discovery VR’s various videos (especially the one on sharks!).
Discovery VR can work alongside Google Cardboard, if you happen to have a pair of cardboard VR classes to hand. Though even without Google Cardboard, the effect is still great, so don’t let this put you off.

In the app’s release notes, Discovery Communications explains:
