SlideMail is an email client that thinks for itself
SlideMail, an iOS app that can be downloaded free of charge on the App Store, hopes to take some of the tedium out of on-the-go email management.
You see, like certain apps before, SlideMail offers users a degree of artificial intelligence. It promises to learn users’ behaviours and to think, at least to an extent, for itself. In this capacity, SlideMail can save you time, it can save you energy, but most of all, it makes email management a little less troublesome.
So what, you may be wondering, does SlideMail do? Well, for starters, it analyzes your email management behaviour through regular usage and begins to perform regular actions for you. Say, for instance, you always archive the same newsletter each time it reaches your inbox, without even opening it. SlideMail will begin to suggest immediate archiving of future messages once it’s figured out which email newsletters aren’t of particular interest.
The app can also pinpoint events embedded within the text of regular messages, and from here it’ll offer to create events inside your calendar. Natural language, such as “dinner tonight at 7 p.m.,” can be transformed into an appointment marked “Dinner” which begins at 7 p.m. on the present day.
Add to this contextual interpretation of messages (that is, being able to figure out if an email is a receipt, an email from a person you know, or something else, and acting accordingly either through archiving or notifying you) and true email deletion (read: when your email’s been deleted, everything is removed from SlideMail’s server!), and what you have is a smart email client that’s well worth the download.
SlideMail can be downloaded free of charge on the App Store, and it’s optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch. At present, the application is compatible with Gmail (Google Mail) accounts only.
