Instagram has announced a great new update that will show off your stuff even better than before. You can now share photos and videos in both portrait and landscape views. Don’t worry, the signature squares aren’t going anywhere. This update will just give you the option to share your awesome shots differently.

How to switch the orientation

After picking or capturing your photo or video, you can click the format icon to change your selection to portrait or landscape instead of a square. Then, that item will be shared exactly as you want. This is really good news for the beautiful landscape views that were previously cut off to a square.

With the option to show off your gorgeous videos with a widescreen view, you can also apply the same filters as you do to photos. So, now all of the filters, including intensity adjustments, will work on both types of media. Take a peek at this Instagram video and just click here if you are unable to view it:

Updates headed your way

The update to include the landscape and portrait mode options is a nice one. Sometimes a square just doesn’t cut it when you have a wonderful, widescreen photo or video that you want to share. If you have not received the update yet, it should be rolling out to you soon. You can also check the App Store for Version 7.5. Review the Help Center within the app for further details on how to use the new feature or visit the Instagram online help.
