PayPal.me offers you an easier way to send and receive money

Mind On My Money
September 1, 2015

PayPal is a pioneer when it comes to sending and receiving money, and now the service is looking to making that process even easier for folks in 18 countries around the world. A person-to-person payment service has launched that is similar to Square Cash, PayPal’s own Venmo, and add-on services from Facebook and Gmail. It’s called PayPal.me, and you can grab your own custom link now before someone snatches your favorite moniker.

Your own payment site

With PayPal.me, you get your very own permanent, unique site link connected to your account with the online payments provider. For example, I was able to set up a page on the service using my personal name, and people can send me any amount of money that then goes straight into my PayPal account. If you want to get your own name, though, you should probably sign up fast.

Limited availability, for now

The drawback is that the person sending you money has to have a PayPal account, and it has to be in one of the 18 compatible countries. Those nations include:

  • United States of America
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Russia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Turkey
  • United Kingdom

What this means

PayPal already offers you a number of ways to get paid or pay others, but this latest offering makes it even easier. A really easy and cool trick is to add a number to the end of the link, and then everyone who clicks it will get to your PayPal.me page with the amount already entered in for them. For example, if you sent out the link PayPal.me/LukeSkywalker/20 to your friends, it would open Luke’s site with $20 already entered and good to go.

Promising idea

I love the idea of this quick and easy service, especially since I already use PayPal extensively to receive money from clients, colleagues, and friends. Since it links into my regular PayPal account, this new option is a great way for me to get folks to chip in on a communal birthday present for our managing editor, for example. Get your own custom link now by visiting the PayPal.me Web page.
