Facebook starts to play nice with 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s

Facebook’s release notes for updates to its app are pretty lame, and don’t usually tell you what’s included. In the case of the latest update, that means leaving out information about an important new feature. As discovered by 9to5Mac, the official Facebook app now includes 3D Touch capability on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

If you press the Facebook app icon firmly from the Home screen of your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, you get a handy Quick Action menu that allows you to write a post, upload a photo or video, or take a photo or video. Since Quick Actions support up to four options, Facebook could later incorporate a more context-based option, like we’ve seen other apps do.

When you use the Quick Action option to update your status, you go straight into the status update section of the app, where you get the usual location check-in options and more. The other two allow you to quickly capture a video or photo, or share one that you’ve already taken.

While I enjoy the fact that Facebook updates its app regularly, I do wish they’d take the time to mention what new features might be included. Having to test various combinations of presses to find out that Facebook has yet to do anything with Peek or Pop was annoying, to say the least.

Facebook is a free download on the App Store, without any ads or in-app purchases. The new 3D Touch feature requires an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus running iOS 9 or later.
