Microsoft’s Skype gives you spotlight search and slide over

If you are a current Skype user for video calls, voice calls, or instant messaging, then you will be happy to know that both the Skype for iPhone and Skype for iPad apps have been updated to support the handy features of iOS 9. Both apps were updated in the past two days to provide easier ways to communicate with your contacts.

What’s new in Skype

With both updated apps, you can now start chats with your Skype contacts directly from the Spotlight Search, which is a great feature for many users. In addition, you can now reply to notifications you receive without even opening the app.

Just for the iPad

Specific to iPad users, you can now use the convenient split view (iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 4) and slide over features introduced in iOS 9. These new features work for both instant messages and voice calls which is super convenient. So you can now view your maps app, for example, while continuing to communicate with your contact. There was also an improvement to the low call volume problem experienced by users.

Convenient update

Taking advantage of the new iOS 9 features is a smart move for Microsoft. Bringing easier, faster, and more efficient ways to communicate with Skype is a move in the right direction. With the recent issues we have seen with Skype, this will hopefully be a smooth update for all users. And just as a reminder, the app supports the Apple Watch, so you will never miss a message.

Skype for iPhone and Skype for iPad are both available for free on the App Store.

In other news, Apple Watch is arriving soon in Target retail stores and Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program is proving popular among users.
