Bookworms can now use Spotlight and 3D Touch with the Goodreads app
Goodreads, the Amazon-owned bookish social networking site commonly referred to as “Facebook for bookworms,” has just updated its official iOS app on iOS with several notable improvements.
What’s Goodreads?
The Goodreads app lets you access the key functions of the Goodreads website using a mobile-friendly interface.
With it you can view your activity feed, showing what your friends have been reading and adding to their shelves, and browse personalized book recommendations, taking into account what books you’ve read and what genres you prefer.
Also with the app, you can add books to your to-read and other shelves, and update your progress on books you’re currently reading. Moreover, the app features a built-in barcode scanner that lets you easily add your books to your online catalog when you’re at home and browse reviews for books before buying them when you’re at bookstores.
What’s new in Goodreads
With its latest update, Goodreads has gained a handful of noteworthy enhancements.
For starters, the app’s author page has been redesigned with a simple and cleaner interface that makes following authors and shelving their books easier.
The app now also lets you view your review on all shelved books from the book page.
The new version of Goodreads also introduces support for Spotlight search in iOS 9. As a result, you can now search for and be taken directly to your shelves, currently reading books, and the books and authors you’ve browsed for in the app right from your device’s home screen.
The latest update to Goodreads also adds support for 3D Touch on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Now, you can press on the app’s icon on the home screen to access quick shortcuts to scan a book or update your reading progress. And in the Goodreads app, you can now Peek and Pop book covers on your activity feed, search results, and book and author pages to quickly get more information about and shelve books.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, Goodreads is available on the App Store for free.
The app was previously updated last month with redesigned book pages and earlier this month with support for voting in this year’s Goodreads Choice Awards.
