Waze gets handy 3D Touch shortcuts in its latest update

At last, Waze, the popular social mapping and traffic software for iOS, has received an update bringing support for 3D Touch to the free application.

You can download the recent release, version 4.0.1, on the App Store now, and as before Waze is optimized for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. Provided you’re running one of Apple’s 3D Touch-enabled iPhone 6s or 6s Plus handsets, users can now press and hold on the Waze app icon in order to quickly navigate to home, work, search address, or send your location to a contact. All of this is great, and is exactly what we’d hoped Waze’s 3D Touch update would offer (even if the update did take a little longer than we expected).

Better yet, 3D Touch support isn’t all Waze 4.0.1 has brought to our iOS devices. In addition, and besides bug fixes and stability improvements, the update also means Waze uses significantly less battery life when running on an iPhone or iPad. There’s also a new ETA panel which organizes everything you need in one place: here, you can view reports, check alternative routes, add a stop on the way, or instantly send your ETA to friends or family.

You can start your drive in fewer taps, too, along with the below additional features:

  • The new map is easier to read with a cleaner look catered to your drive.
  • It’s easier to help others on the road with a faster, more visual reporting menu.
  • Reports and alerts are now colour-coded so you can instantly recognize them on the map.
  • Smart notifications to leave on time for your Calendar events based on traffic conditions and journey times.

So, all of this means there’s never been a better time to take Waze for a spin. If you aren’t familiar with the app, it crowd-sources mapping and traffic data from users who are currently on the road. As such, it promises to offer real-time traffic updates designed to make your trip less of a pain. And all of this comes with no price tag at all.

You can download Waze 4.0.1 on the App Store now, and it’s optimized for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad.
