Apple's free 'Hour of Code' kids workshops are coming to stores on Dec. 10
Apple is, once again, planning on offering children aged six and over a free hour-long introduction to computer programming at its retail stores next Thursday, Dec. 10.
Kids, get codingThe workshops, offered in conjunction with Code.org as part of Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-13), are indeed free for parents to sign their kids up for. You can do this for your local Apple Store online, and international stores (including those in the United Kingdom) are on board with the initiative, too.
There, Apple explains:
Events around the worldComputer Science Education Week is December 7–13. We’re supporting Code.org by hosting workshops and other special events for kids ages six and up at your local Apple Store. Join us on December 10 for the Hour of Code, a free one-hour introduction to the basics of computer programming.
Apple is also offering a number of one-off events in retail stores around the world: on Dec. 7, for instance, Hadi Partovi, co-founder and CEO of Code.org, is making an appearance at Apple’s retail store in SoHo, New York; developer Andy Sum (behind Crossy Road), on the other hand, is appearing at the Apple Store in Sydney on Dec. 9. The full selection of special appearances can be viewed online at Apple’s Hour of Code page.
These run from Dec. 7-12, and select events will also be made available as podcasts on iTunes, Apple adds online.
So, if you have a youngster interested in learning computer programming, call by Apple’s website and sign them up for a slot at your local Apple retail store. As mentioned, children age six and over can participate in a workshop free of charge.
