Drinking enough water is one of the most important things so many of us don’t do, and though software like Apple’s Health application aims to help iOS device owners take control of their personal health, a new app called 1 Gallon a Day places the focus firmly on water consumption.

Get your gallon

You can download the app right now; it launched on iOS yesterday, and it’s available free of charge for the iPhone/iPod touch. In the application, users are offered an elegant, accessible means of tracking the amount of water they drink each and every day. Initially, iPhone owners can set the amount of water they’d like to drink (this might be the full gallon, but could also be one half or one quarter of a gallon, too), and from here, the application will begin to track what you consume.

Of course, you’ll need to input what you drink, but the app tries to make this as seamless as possible through providing colorful cards which users can tap to quickly add a small glass, a large glass, or a bottle of water to the application. The app will then track how far along users are to reaching their preset goal, providing a percentage as well as a circular interface which fills as users approach 100 percent.

The app’s release notes explain:

Water is essential for life and staying hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your body. Research has shown that staying hydrated can improve mood, energy and overall wellbeing. With 1 Gallon a Day, you can easily track and reach your hydration goals and feel great about it.

Plus, though a full gallon might seem like a lot, as the developer behind 1 Gallon a Day adds, “celebrities like Beyoncé, Karlie Kloss, and Gabrielle Union swear by drinking a gallon of water every day.” As such, the app hopes to make this goal more feasible by streamlining the recording process.

Features include:

  • Easy and beautiful interface for tracking drinks
  • Helpful reminders
  • Track multiple water quantity goals, 1 Gallon, 1/2 Gallon, and 1/4 Gallon
  • Goal History Page
  • Custom setting for changing Notifications and goals
  • Ad free

You can download 1 Gallon a Day on the App Store now, and as mentioned, it’s a free application that’s optimized for the iPhone/iPod touch. Check out the app now, and start drinking your gallon a day!
