Activity++ is a new take on Apple's stock fitness app
One of the lesser-known changes in iOS 9.3, which officially landed late last month, was that third-party developers can now access all three activity data points captured by the Apple Watch – Move, Exercise, and Stand.
Going for motivation
The statistics view will show users a detailed look at the data.
And Activity++ is a new take on Apple’s stock fitness app. It is from developer David Smith, who is also known for two other insightful health-related apps – Pedometer++ and Sleep++.
Activity++ should immediately look familiar to anyone who has used Apple’s own Activity app. But there are a few important differences.
Instead of just a calendar view, the app shows a simple timeline of each day. Users can quickly and easily scroll through to notice trends. Tapping on each day will show a detailed view of the activity information.
Hitting the top right button on the home screen will show a detailed statistics view, something that is definitely missing from Apple’s app. You can view your average, best day, number of days you reached the goal, and the best streak.
And speaking of streaks, Activity++ also offers a welcomed improvement to Apple’s formula. After reaching a goal for six days straight, you’ll be allowed a single rest day and still be able to tally longer streaks.
A clearer complication
The Activity++ complication on the right is compared to Apple's own rings on the left.
The watch app also brings a few new tricks to the table.
Most importantly, the app’s complication is designed to make it very clear when you’ve hit your goal for the day. Instead of a ring structure, Activity++ displays the three different metrics in parallel lines with Activity on the top, Exercise in the middle, and Stand on the bottom.
When you make a goal, the monochrome color on the complication will slightly change to make it very apparent that you’ve hit the mark for the day.
Along with the complication, you can also take a look at all the data using the app itself or a Glance. You can view both the progress toward a goal and a detailed view of activity for the day.

Wrap-up
Activity++ is designed for the iPhone and can be downloaded now on the App Store for $2.99.
If you’ve grown tired of Apple’s Activity app and are looking for a new way to stay motivated on your fitness journey, definitely take a look at Activity++. It provides a well-designed way to look at important fitness data.
