With Apple’s HomePod speaker delayed until sometime early next year, Amazon’s Echo line of devices were apparently a popular Christmas gift in the United States.

First noticed by TechCrunch, the companion Amazon Alexa iOS app rose to No. 1 on the App Store charts on Dec. 25 in the United States and still remains in the same position.

Amazon discounted a number of Echo devices for the holiday shopping season.

Just yesterday, Amazon said that the $29.99 Echo Dot was the best selling device on the entire site during the holiday season.

The line also includes the second-generation Echo, Echo Show, Echo Dot, and Echo Tap, Echo Plus, and Echo Look.

Anyone setting up their Echo device for the first time needs the companion app to fine tune the Settings and different options.

Amazon Alexa downloads also saw a big spike in other countries where the Echo devices are available including Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

After originally promised to hit the market in December, Apple delayed the $349 HomePod’s debut. And it seems that the Siri-powered speaker will have some catching up to do when it arrives.
