Amazon Alexa App Update Offers a New Look, Easier Controls

October 5, 2018

Amazon has just updated its Alexa app to make it easier to control smart home devices and more.

The companion app for the smart speaker line now offers a devices tab that shows all of your compatible smart home devices and groups on a single screen. Different types of devices are grouped by room with colorful icons to help distinguish everything.

On the communication tab, there is a new icon specifically for the drop-in feature that allows you to turn Alexa devices in your home into an intercom. You can also drop in with other contacts that have been approved.

Finally, users can also add Bluetooth speakers to a multi-room music group.

The Amazon Alexa app is designed for the iPhone and all iPad models. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.

A number of new Alexa-enabled devices are slated to arrive later this month including a new Echo Dot, Echo Plus, and touchscreen-enabled Echo Show.
