Apple has just informed members of its Affiliate Program that it is cutting the commission for apps and in-app purchases to 2.5 percent starting in May. Currently, the Apple Affiliate Program commission rate for those items is 7 percent.
Just for apps
The Affiliate Program allows app-focused sites and developers to earn additional revenue.
Program members received the news in an email from Apple today:
Starting on May 1st 2017, commissions for all app and in-app content will be reduced from 7% to 2.5% globally. All other content types (music, movies, books, and TV) will remain at the current 7% commission rate in all markets. We will also continue to pay affiliate commissions on Apple Music memberships so there are many ways to earn commissions with the program.
Apple didn’t offer any reason for the change.
The Apple Affiliate Program is used by a number of app-focused sites (AppAdvice included) and app developers to earn additional revenue.
