Apple Announces New Find My Network for Third-Party Products
A New Items Tab
Apple has just announce the new Find My Network that will allow users to track items from third-party manufacturers.
New products compatible with the service will be available next week – Belkin’s SOUNDFORM Freedom True Wireless Earbuds, S3 and X3 e-bikes from VanMoof, and the Chipolo ONE Spot item finder.
All of the new products will be available to track using the new Items tab in the Find My app. You’ll need to have iOS and iPadOS 14.3 and macOS Big Sur 11.1 or later to use the new feature.
“For more than a decade, our customers have relied on Find My to locate their missing or stolen Apple devices, all while protecting their privacy,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Now we’re bringing the powerful finding capabilities of Find My, one of our most popular services, to more people with the Find My network accessory program. We’re thrilled to see how Belkin, Chipolo, and VanMoof are utilizing this technology, and can’t wait to see what other partners create.”
Using the Items tab, you’ll be able to see the last know location of the item, even if it doesn’t connect to the Internet thanks to Bluetooth wireless technology from other Apple devices. The process is end-to-end encrypted and anonymous.
